Salman Khan will be brand ambassador for an IIFA charity initiative in Sri Lanka during the IIFA Weekend and Award celebrations in Colombo.
Salman's appointment was announced at a press event attended by Lara Dutta, Ritesh Deshmukh and Boman Irani at Hotel Grand Hyatt, Kalina, Mumbai on Wednesday noon, May 12.
IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) will spearhead the charity initiative in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, Habitat for Humanity and UNICEF.
The initiative will benefit those afflicted by the prolonged internal strife in Sri Lanka.
A charity cricket match between Indian celebrities and Sri Lankan cricketers is scheduled to take place on the 2nd day of the Videocon IIFA Weekend.
Under the Initiative's "Cricket for Change" project, former child-soldiers, who have borne the scars of war, are being educated, cricket-trained and given the opportunity to participate as volunteers.
